Joe Steele, PhD
Principal Scientist and Oral Care Therapeutics
Colgate-Palmolive

Abstract and Biography
Joe is a hands-on innovator focused on biomedical materials and functional polymers for enhanced therapeutic outcomes. Joe completed his PhD in materials engineering at Imperial College London with Molly Stevens, developing cartilage scaffolds through preclinical large animal trials. He went on to be a founding member of the Biomaterials group at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm where he focused on functional therapeutic materials for scar reduction. His interdisciplinary career has resulted in 22 publications, 30 patents, and 6 commercial product launches in 4 global markets. Over 6 years at Colgate-Palmolive Joe has advanced the field of translational biomaterials in the professional oral health market, directly impacting over a billion people. His talk will highlight career opportunities for biomedical engineers, effective translational engineering, and ways to enhance academic-industrial innovation.
