BME Professor Appointed Conference Chair for 2027 American Conference of Pharmacometrics

Department of Biomedical Engineering and Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Professor Ioannis (Yannis) Androulaks has assumed leadership roles within the International Society of Pharmacometrics (ISoP)—which supports the increasingly influential field of quantitative decision-making—since he joined the group in 2007.

He has recently been appointed by ISoP to serve as the conference chair for the next American Conference on Pharmacometrics (ACoP)—the organization's flagship annual meeting—to be held in Colorado in October 2027.

"This appointment, which follows my service as scientific chair for the 2026 meeting, is a tremendous professional honor, but it's also personally meaningful. ISoP and ACoP have been an important scientific home for me and my students," he says. "It's a community where quantitative, mechanistic, and translational modeling come together with real impact on drug development and patient care."

His appointment also, he insists, "not only reflects the growing visibility of our work at Rutgers in pharmacometrics, quantitative systems pharmacology, or QSP, AI-ML-enabled modeling and translational systems science, but is an

 opportunity to further highlight our leadership in these areas while strengthening connections with leaders from academia, industry, regulatory agencies, and clinical and translational science."

He notes that "ACoP provides a forum for shaping the future of quantitative decision-making in drug development." The conferences traditionally do this by defining emerging standards, disseminating new methods, showcasing applications of model-informed drug development, and creating the professional networks that allow the relatively young field to mature. 

Androulakis, who is an ISoP Fellow, considers it a privilege to have served in leading roles within ISoP, including leadership within its QSP Special Interest Group, as well as education and training activmy students and meities, "where I am currently developing strategic collaborations between ISoP and academic institutions—of which one will be Rutgers."

He adds, "To be entrusted with a leadership role in shaping the vision and experience of the 2027 conference is both humbling and energizing. It is also especially meaningful because it allows me to contribute to the growth of a field that has shaped much of my own professional work."
