Visual Perception and Mental Health

Faculty in this area study brain mechanisms in visual perception and develop models for perceptual processes. In particular, physical, as well as virtual, visual stimuli is used to examine how humans perceive 3-D faces and scenes. In collaboration with professors and clinicians of the Rutgers Division of Schizophrenia Research, the faculty explores differences in visual perception between controls and mental patients to design method for diagnosing schizophrenia and to assess the efficacy of therapeutic treatments.
